             abstract = "The use and inadequate management of environmental resources and 
                         increasing urbanization has contributed to environmental 
                         degradation due to the numerous land use conflicts in both urban 
                         and rural areas. These conflicts are among the main causes of 
                         erosion, silting, floods and drought effects. Therefore, the use 
                         of studies and occupation of the land are characterized by being 
                         decisive in the territorial management of cities, planning and 
                         environmental studies. This study aimed to use studies and land 
                         occupation, the morphometric analysis in numerical modeling of 
                         ground and spatial analysis related to river basin of Faxinal, 
                         identify and map the areas most susceptible to flooding in the 
                         basin. Satellite images were used GeoEye and RapidEye with spatial 
                         resolution of 50 cm and 5 m respectively, which allowed the 
                         identification of areas of the basin, and a great breakdown of the 
                         urban area. land use classification maps were produced in the 
                         basin as well as infiltration ability levels. From altimetry data 
                         numerical models and their maps altimetry and slope were produced. 
                         The morphometric characterization proved efficient in 
                         understanding the hydrological dynamics of the same applied to the 
                         issue of flooding. And finally, considering data slope, distances 
                         from the banks, use and occupation of land, infiltration capacity 
                         levels in the soil and the quota of the last great flood of 2014, 
                         it obtained the identification of the areas most susceptible to 
                         the occurrence of floods as well as the spatial representation of 
                         these risk areas to assist in management and planning of the 
                         municipality.",
